When God Calls You To Uncomfortable Places: The Secret to Contentment

Often times, when God places us in uncomfortable places, we want to jump out of the process. It feels like you are slowly easing your entire body into a pool of ice-cold water. You have moments where you want to release your frustrations on others. You want to hide in your own quiet corner. You want to run away from the process. However, in spite of the discomfort, one thing I’ve learned is that prayer is the answer to all of the problems we face.

While I was in my quiet time today, I heard Philippians 4:6-7, 11-12, drop in my spirit which says:

“6 Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. 7 Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
“11 Not that I was ever in need, for I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. 12 I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.”

The words that stuck out to me were “Don’t worry“, “pray“, “peace“, “content“, and “secret“.

I connected those words together and realized that the secret to contentment is prayer. When you connect with God through prayer, He gives you insight to your environment. In other words, He comforts you in spite of your discomfort. He tells you where He places you is purposed to strengthen you. Although you are in an uncomfortable place in your life, know that our Heavenly Father grants the peace that surpasses all understanding. He gives us peace so that we can endure. He gives us joy so that we can endure and be made complete and mature in our faith walk.

During your uncomfortable season, remember that the secret to contentment is prayer. When you pray in the midst of your difficult circumstances, you are communicating with God. His peace resonates within you. Your spirit connects with His holy presence, subjecting your soul to the obedience of His Word. The love of the Lord captures your flesh, filling the voids that you oh so want to fulfill. It is something about prayer that connects you back into the sequence with God’s expectations of your life. For instance, if you are living outside of your comfort zone, sleeping on the floor or couch of someone’s living room, you may feel out of place after a while. Living this uncomfortable place can be overwhelming. It can cause you to second guess the decision you’ve made to step out into your purpose. It can cause you to think, “God, are you really calling me to this place?” However, when you go into prayer, the Spirit of the Lord holds you in that moment.

God speaks to you words that will make you forget your uncomfortable place. Your communication with the Lord will feed your spirit with the Word of God, helping you to endure through the trial. He reminds you of the times when He made a way for you in the past. Prayer is the peace of God that will come into your heart to quiet your soul with contentment in every circumstance.

Always know that you are Chosen, you are Royal, you are Holy, and you are God’s Special Possession.
He has turned your darkness into light.
