Defeating Pharisaical Giants

Defeating Pharisaical Giants

Mark 3:1-6

(Link to video)

There are many instances in our walk with God where we develop a Pharisaical mindset. This type of mindset is considered to be in relation to the Pharisees. In the New Testament of the Bible, the Pharisees were considered to be the Jewish group set apart as religious priest as well as hypocritical influences. There were many cases where Jesus performed miracles on the Sabbath, called Himself Lord, forgave people’s sins, and called Himself the Son of God. In restricted order, the Pharisees condemned Jesus for His authority in proclaiming the way of life.

In Mark 3:1-6, I’ve discovered a fascinating mystery residing within the story of Jesus healing a man with a paralyzed hand. Within this story lies the matter of a believer defeating the Pharisaical Giant in their life. It is my desire to express that all believers are free to live in the life God has called each and every one of us to live.

As Jesus was healing the man’s hand, the Pharisees watched Jesus in the intention to accuse Him. Jesus was angered at their hardened hearts. The Pharisees forbid healing on Sabbath day because the Sabbath was considered a holy day of rest. Therefore, if anyone needed healing or deliverance, they had to wait for any other day than Sabbath day. Because of Jesus’ compassionate heart, He healed the man with the paralyzed hand. This proved that Jesus was not a man of religion. Whenever He saw a need, He performed a miracle or spoke a word of truth. After Jesus healed the man with the paralyzed hand, the Pharisees sought to plot for Jesus’ death.

Awareness of Pharisaical Giants

After reading this story, I realized how we have Pharisees living amongst us today – not only in the physical nature, but also in the spiritual realm. Whenever we seek to do good things for the Kingdom of God, whether it is performing miracles, accepting Jesus as our Lord and savior, or taking a leap of faith into our next level with God, we will face adversity. Our enemy, the adversary, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking for someone to devour (1 Peter 5:8). Therefore, we must be alert of such tactics that come our way when we impact the Kingdom of God.

The enemy dispatches his demons to watch us, to accuse us of falsehood like the Pharisees did towards Jesus. They seek to downgrade our worth when we gain confidence in our identity. Adversity strikes after someone is healed, delivered, or set free because our enemy hates these acts of love. Why do you think people get attacked after their breakthrough? This occurs not only to test how strong one is, but it occurs as a trick to remind that person of their options of going back into the bondage they were trapped in. These tricks occur to trap us into our former limited mentality.

Pharisaical Giants Hates Seeing us Succeed

He hates seeing us healed because healing diminishes his actions to keep us impaired. He hates deliverance because deliverance proves that he is powerless. It proves that he can no longer capture our soul – our mind, will, and emotions. Our enemy hates freedom because he can no longer keep us bound. He seeks to devour us, to trap us in our sins. He hates when we proclaim that we have the victory. When we recognize the authority that we have to overcome ALL the power of the enemy, we will live in our righteous freedom!

Pharisaical Giants will work their way through anything to seek to keep us bound. They will use people, places, and things to get us back into our former place of bondage. Our place of bondage is defined as anything that blocks us from receiving true liberty. Bondage is that same old mountain we keep walking around. Bondage is that same garbage we dive into. Bondage is that enslaved mentality we grew up in. Bondage is that same thought pattern that we speak into existence:

“I don’t feel like doing this, God.” – Yet we want God to give us more responsibility.

“This is the way it’s always been. This is how it will always be.” – Yet we tell God we want to see Him move in our circumstance.

“I grew up doing eating this way. I ain’t changing my diet.” – Yet we wonder why we have health problems.

“I am not good enough.” – Yet we want to pursue greater things in life.

“Just one more hit and I’ll quit.” – Yet we wonder why demonic spirits still live amongst us.

“I’m stuffed! Just one more plate of food and I’m done.” – Yet we wonder why our bodies become weary.

“I’m so done! I’m quitting God!” – But we just screamed out, “Lord, I’ll go wherever you call me!” less than a month ago.

All of this is BONDAGE…Bondage is what limits us from reaching our God-given potential. Bondage is the Pharisaical mindset that we place ourselves in. Are we going to let the Pharisaical Giants control our life? Are we going to stop ourselves from living in God’s healing, deliverance, and freedom? Are we going to allow these giants to block us from living in our calling? Are we going to allow these giants stop us from walking by faith and not by sight?

We will be plotted against. We may even be accused for making just actions when it appears unjust to others. The last time I checked God’s word, He says that we are His children. If God is for us, then who can stand against us (Romans 8:31)? According to Romans 8:37, we are more than conquerors! We put on our full armor of God to stand against the wiles of the enemy (Ephesians 6:11). God is our refuge and our salvation! He is the rock on which we stand! He is our stronghold – our help in time of need. He is our Source. We have access to Him at any given time of the day. If this is who we say our God is, then why do we give into the enemy’s tactics? Why do we allow our flesh to overrule our authority?

How Do I Defeat Pharisaical Giants?

I’m glad you asked. Here is what you need to know:

  1. Acknowledge Your Authority
Our Heavenly Father thought of you when He created the Earth. Did you know that He created you to rule and reign? When He created male and female, He said, “Let us make mankind in our image.” This means that we are created to be heirs of God. This means that we too are created to rule over the fish in the sea, the bird in the sky, the livestock, all the Earth and its creatures (Genesis 1:26-27). This means that we too have the authority to trample upon snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy with no harm overtaking us (Luke 10:19). We are also capable of creating art in sculptures, paintings, poetry, music, and various crafts. We have the freedom to love genuinely as God loves us. We can even heal the sick, deliver people from demonic oppression, and set the captives free. We have wisdom and knowledge to learn, teach, and build. We have so much within us that we rarely recognize we are capable of. Why do we keep denying our authority? Possibly because we have listened to too many voices other than our true Source, God our Father.
  2. Recognize Your Identity
We come to recognize our identity in God when we grow a close relationship with Him. When we become intimately transparent with Jesus, we will find ourselves. We will then be able to accept our identity in Him. We will be able to surmount more than we could ask or think. We will be able to receive our healing, deliverance, and freedom just as Jesus brought to the Earth. Your identity does not reside in the earthly living. Your identity does not rely in other people’s opinions. It resides in our Creator. He has a special purpose for your life today. Remember you were created to reign and rule. You are a heir of God.
  3. Immerse Yourself in the Love of God
Know that God loves you and wants to use you for His Kingdom. You are His precious possession. In spite of all the obstacles you face, God is with you stretching your faith along His path. He wants you to be strong from the inside out. He is with you and He loves you dearly. There is not greater love than the love from our Father. You learn about His love through your intimate journey with Him. The faithful love of the Lord never ends. His mercies never cease. Great is thy faithfulness, His mercies are afresh each morning (Lamentations 3:22-23). You do not have to remain in depression, fear, doubt, anger, bitterness, greed, lust, grief, and other such darkness. God has called you out of darkness and into His marvelous light. So I encourage you to accept His heart today. Accept His love, forgiveness, peace, and freedom. You can do all things through Christ who give you strength. There is no fear in love, for perfect love casts out fear (1 John 4:18). The Pharisaical mindset is already defeated in you!

Scriptures to Meditate

1 Peter 5:8 NIV

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

Romans 8:31 HCSB

What then are we to say about these things?
If God is for us, who is against us?

Ephesians 6:11 NIV

Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes.

Luke 10:19 NIV

I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.

Lamentations 3:22-23 NLT

The faithful love of the LORD never ends! His mercies never cease.
Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.

1 John 4:18 ESV

There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. For fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.

Ephesians 3:16-20 NLT

16 I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will empower you with inner strength through his Spirit.
17 Then Christ will make his home in your hearts as you trust in him. Your roots will grow down into God’s love and keep you strong.
18 And may you have the power to understand, as all God’s people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love is.
19 May you experience the love of Christ, though it is too great to understand fully. Then you will be made complete with all the fullness of life and power that comes from God.
20 Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.

Always know that you are Chosen, you are Royal, you are Holy, and you are God’s Special Possession.
He has turned your darkness into light.
